Biography

Songsak Srianujata is currently Senior Advisor at the Institute of Nutrition, Mahidol University,Thailand, where he was the former Director from 1999 to 2003. He is also President of the Thai Society of Toxicology, Thailand; Honorary President of the Council of Science and Technology Associations of Thailand; President of the Asian Society of Toxicology; and Former Vice President of the Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Associations. Dr. Srianujata is actively involved in numerous governmental committees – he is a member of the Strategic Committee on Food Quality and Safety under the National Food Committee, and Chairman of its Sub-Committee on Risk Assessment; a member of Agricultural Commodity Standard Committee; a member of Sub-Committee on Risk Assessment of Hazardous Substance of Hazardous Substance Control Committee; Chairman of Sub-Committee on Biosafety in Food (Risk Assessment of Food Derived from Bioengineering Organisms -GMOs). He was also a previous member of the Food Committee of Thai Food and Drug Administration for many terms and presently the chairman of the sub-committee on technical assessment on food and food product of Thai FDA. He is the founder and advisor of the Thailand Risk Assessment Center (TRAC) for food safety. Dr. Srianujata has experience in teaching, research and managing research programs in food and nutrition, especially in the area of food safety. He was previously Head of the Center for System Research in Food Safety and Nutrition, Knowledge Network Institute of Thailand from 2006 to 2010. He was an Associate Professor of the Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital at Mahidol University, Thailand from 1984 to 2003, where he was the Head of the Food and Chemical Toxicology Unit, Research Center. Dr. Srianujata was a Senator in the Senate of the Kingdom of Thailand from 2008 to 2011. Dr. Srianujata holds a BSc in Pharmacy (Hons) from the University of Medical Science (presently Mahidol University), Thailand, as well as a MS and a Ph.D from the University of Kansas, USA. He has also obtained additional training and certification in Risk Assessment from RASS, the International Union of Toxicology (IUTOX). He author more than 70 publications both in English and Thai.
